COVER KIDS CONTEST 2012 Q&A

What is the Cover Kids Contest?
We open up the opportunity to be on our cover to ALL kids in our community who are interested. We’re seeking kids who enjoy being in front of the camera, take direction well, and would be comfortable sharing their photo with thousands of our readers.

We encourage everyone interested to enter! We will choose a representative cross section of kids from our region based on each issue’s needs and themes, which include (but are not limited to):

• Special needs
• Babies/Toddlers
• School-aged children
• Teens
• Diversity
• Seasonal fun

ALL entries will be featured on our website in 2012!

How do we enter?
Entries must be at least 4x6 but not larger than 5x7. Photos of smiling faces are better than those taken at a distance, but full-body shots are fine as long as the face shows clearly. They do not need to be headshots nor professionally taken. Photocopies or low-resolution printouts are discouraged since the hard-copy prints are what we use in the judging process. For that reason, we cannot accept electronic submissions.

Send a recent photo, an official entry form, and entry fees for each child by standard mail no later than Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 to the address that follows.

How much are entry fees?
Entry fees are $10 for the first child, $5 each additional child to a maximum of $20. Children must be from the same immediate family. This means if you have one child, you will pay $10 to enter; two children, you will pay $15 to enter. If you are entering three or more children, you pay $20.

Entry fees will be used to cover the costs associated with the contest, including staff time, postage, and advertising. A portion of any profits will be donated to local nonprofit organizations serving families.

What does it mean to be a “winner”?
We will choose a pool of semi-finalists from the total entries. From that pool, our judges will draw on models throughout the year for our photography and modeling needs. This may include covers, photos for article needs, and fashion shows or fashion spreads.

All semi-finalists will be recognized in the magazine in Winter 2012 and on our website.

How do you choose winners?
The Coulee Region is blessed with an abundance of adorable children! With hundreds of entries last year, the competition was stiff and choosing winners was a difficult and painstaking process.

Many factors go into choosing winners. We avoid choosing semi-finalists from the same family, or kids previously featured on our covers, in order to include as many families in our community as possible. We try to choose a good cross-section based on gender, ethnicity, and age.
