5 Steps to Conquering Cold Weather Clutter by Crystal Layland
As much as I enjoy the freedom of summer, fall is ultimately my favorite time of year. With football games and the smell of cold weather approaching, it’s time to say good bye shorts and tank tops, and hello coats and hats. As you are preparing for the season, try these five steps to conquering cold weather clutter:
- Make Room:
Clear a space in the entry way or closet for your fall/winter items. - Bags and Shoes:
Assign each child a bin, shelf or even a small laundry basket to store their backpacks and shoes. - Winter Accessories:
Use a vertical, canvas shoe organizer to hang behind the closet door for storage of hats, scarves, mittens and gloves. The pockets work great to keep items separated and easily accessible. Cubed shelves are a wall-mounted option that will work just the same. - Coats:
No entry closet? No problem. Wall hooks and pegs work great for storing coats-be sure to keep them within your child’s reach so they can get in the habit of storing their own items. - Donate:
Give gently used cold weather clothing and accessories to children in need. Contact your local charities, daycare centers or schools for a list of desired items.
